I started my Letterboxd account at the start of 2018, and every movie I have logged has been films that I have watched since then. However, I have to say that I was not as critical with my film scores back then than I am now, and that is reflected by looking back and thinking about what films I scored too highly. I have curated a list of films that I believe I scored too highly, and I have also given a new score for those films and a description of why I think I may have scored it higher than I would now. Check out my list below.

Downsizing (2018) - source: Paramount Pictures

Iron Man 2
Original Score: 4/5
My Reflective Score: 3/5

This came at a time when I thought every Marvel film (aside from Thor: The Dark World) was superb. Now, looking back, there are some films from the filmography that aren't perfect and nearly as entertaining as I expected. This is one of them.

Downsizing
Original Score: 3.5/5
My Reflective Score: 2.5/5

I had high expectations of this film. This had come off of my love for Damon in The Martian, and it was a brand new idea in a world full of remakes and superhero franchises. I think this all clouded my mind, as looking back it was misdirected from the trailers and I did not enjoy this film overall.

12 Strong
Original Score: 4/5
My Reflective Score: 3/5

I did end up enjoying this film, and it did offer more to me than what I was perhaps expecting. I also like that the film took some risks in its presentation and narration. However, I do not think now that it is a great film.

The Incredible Hulk (2008) - source: Universal Pictures

Veronica

Original Score: 4/5
My Reflective Score: 2.5/5

I always like to cheer on horror films, particularly independent and low-budget ones. I still enjoyed Veronica when watching it, but now it feels generic and forgettable. I am not sure why I ranked it so high originally.

The Incredible Hulk
Original Score: 3.5/5
My Reflective Score: 2.5/5

The comment about me thinking every Marvel film was great? Yeah, this applies here as well. I do not have any interest in checking this film out again, which suggests to me that I did not enjoy it as much as I originally said.

Isn't It Romantic
Original Score: 3.5/5
My Reflective Score: 3/5

This more fits into my 2019 end-of-year list, in which I have this film below some films that I did rank 3/5. I did enjoy this film whilst watching it, but I wouldn't call this a solid or great film either as there are a lot of flaws to it.

Is there any films you have gone back to and questioned why you rated it so high previously? What films would be on your list? Let me know in the comments section and let's have a discussion.
