It has now been ten years since the original Zombieland was released, and it is a nice fun zombie movie. Now, we are getting a sequel to this film with all of the main cast reprising their roles. I did not feel that a sequel was needed for this film, but perhaps the trailer could convince me that this could be a movie franchise. Check out the trailer below and continue further to read my first thoughts.

Director: Ruben Fleischer
Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin
Plot: A decade after the original film, the crew must go on to fight zombies that have evolved since the last fight, and meet up with some new human survivors.

I have to be honest with you, I was disappointed with the first trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap. I do not understand what tone they are wanting to hit with this film, because it felt all over the place. The action at the start looked fantastic, and I feel like for the first trailer they should have hooked people back in with the zombie action shots, because that is where this movie looks to succeed at.

I am not sure in particular what the story is about, yet it also felt that they were going to give away so much of the story. It feels like it is meant to be big and grand in scale, yet reduced down to these four single characters that I am starting to not care much about particularly. I trust the actors to give incredible performances, considering the amount of nominations and wins they've had at award seasons, but I just wonder if they have maybe now matured out of those roles and this story after ten years.

I also did not like the humour of this film, like at all. Unfortunately, I do not think I laughed at any of the jokes in the film. The highlighted romance in the trailer feels forced and cringe, Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee does nothing for me and I am already sick of the "little girl" joke. Maybe in context the humour will work better, but for now it feels flat and uneven tonally. Having enjoyed the first film, I will give this entry a shot. However, it's gonna have to give me better trailers to convince me that it is going to be a good film.

What did you make of the trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap? Did you enjoy what it had to offer, or is it making you wonder if they even should have bothered with a sequel? Let me know in the comments section and let's have a discussion.
